what's your name my name is Miz Thompson what grade do you teach 3rd grade always a teacher no actually I on the business for 10 years my first career and then I decided to come back and get my degree in teaching and now I'm teacher you're a good teacher I feel like I'm looking to I do I work really hard to make sure every day is fun and we also do a lot of fun activities but also make learning really relevant to real life to the 3rd grader do teachers other grades right now I'm on a team that we teach 2nd and 3rd grade so I get to work with both grade levels PayPal I feel like they probably say that Miss there's a little clumsy but they would probably also say that she's fun and we always do creative activities and we make learning just over on the class but I think everybody real enjoys the different activities that we do from project-based learning we do a lot of escape room lessons and we do complex reasoning and literacy the most the Hands-On activities of the best students in my class to learn my favorite subject is definitely literacy I love literacy I think it's because I really enjoy reading and I love read aloud with the classroom but we also make reading more fun than the usual literacy class we do something called Project based learning for 30 minutes a day and that's where we get to do experiments we do research we get to go outside we get to create things that I think that really makes it a lot more and engagement literacy class then just the standards book groups and lessons we take it a different an extra level and make it a lot more why did you want to become a teacher like I said before he's on a business for 10 years and I was I own a nanny service so I work with kids but after a while I felt like I wanted to do something more meaning call with kids and then I went back to school I get another degree to become a teacher where do I tighten the more the merrier I love having Volunteers in my I love having other teachers in my class 11 the parents come in on my feel like when there's more people in the classroom it's a better learning opportunity for the kids to a project-based learning can you tell me some more about that so this year we did a project on as a producer of chocolate how can we make more so that's the driving question so the kids had to research how to create the ultimate cacao growing environment to produce more chocolate so they really got into the whole production part of chocolate where the cacao tree grows and they did some experiments with soil made bunch of different research and then they created a big presentation where they presented to the class and answered their driving question so is taking literacy skills and reading but also applying it to something relevant in the real world how does math go in your teaching team so mad if we do a little different we actually are expert teachers and our topics in math and I am a g returning teacher but I also do area and perimeter and that's all I teach and the other teachers on my team teach fractions money and data measurement and place value in the kids actually transition to each room I'm in become proficient at their targets at their speed with choices for activities about how their math is structured so where on the map where the kids can is fluidity so they can come in and out of the classroom when they want so if they are in place value for a while and then I kind of just getting a little bit not as interested they can choose to move to measure and working measurement for a while but when they become proficient in all their grade level targets they actually don't have to go back to that concept unless they want to actually learn more get a little deeper with that concept but they're looking to try and get call Derek Bray level proficiency by the end of the year and they have the choice of how they want to do that like I think so because some of the choices began in the creative and create things so posters lessons different projects as the other day some of my students created a zoo through area and perimeter so they really enjoyed that there is all kinds of things I can geometry you can create a quadrilateral robot you can show Proficiency in more than one way so it depends on what type of learner you are and with that knowing your learning style helps you understand yourself a little better and allows you to choose what options best fit you for that math concept because you usually test out of your toe if it's third grade and you're looking trying to earn a blue star so you can try and take an a testament but we also do like verbal informal assessments or you can creative project if you pass with that project or task then you're wearing your blue star in there ready to go so you worked in the same can your own learning path that you go on so the kids are really in charge of their learning they can go at their own speed know exactly what Target are working on for Math and then become proficient at the rate that they want and they can choose activities for those Target so it's really giving them control over their learning pencil and paper because I'm kind of a creative teacher so I like the option of having the technology but I also like kids to create things and do things Hands-On so I creep puppet shows act things out they can create like models of stuff so I really like to put that component in and Technology they are for the kids up enjoy that but I really push kids try and be a little more creative than just to go online to a website got something I want to see them kind of blue more
